Brief Bio

Erica Watson is a local artist from Kanawha County, WV. She specializes in acrylic paint on finished boards, specifically softwoods. She attended and graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, which she says is an experience she would recommend to anyone. After her experience at the Art Academy, Watson said she started her own family and put her art career on hold. She said she’s now branching out again and looking for ways to show her work and, “basically get the start that was kind of delayed.” Her work is inspired by nature, especially Woodland Critters such as deer and foxes.

Watson was also a Tamarack featured Artist at the Mountain State Arts and Crafts Festival and exhibited in The Best of Tamarack in 2010. Since then, she has exhibited in many arts and crafts shows such as the WV Artisan Market in Ripley, WV, and has had products featured at The Red Caboose in Huntington, WV.

Work on Display

Watson currently has two works on display in the “My Heart’s Desire,” Exhibit in Gallery 610 which are both cross-cut and finished pine boards. One titled, “Deer,” is described as light relief. Watson said she used a single-value acrylic, black, and a kitchen knife to etch the piece. The second titled, “Little Foxes,” is in full color made with mixed media and egg tempera being the color aspects.

Where to find more work by the Watson

Watson says you can find her work in the Woodland Critters & Friends art enthusiast group. Specifically, you can find Watson’s work in the Woodland Critters Album collection on the page. She is quick to respond to messages regarding her work through Facebook. Watson also offers a pet portraiture called Ericat’ll Paint It! Meet Watson during the Winter Arts Fest on March 2nd upstairs of the Village Antique Mall (Gallery 610) to learn more about her work.
