Meet Heather Barker @ Winter Arts Fest

Last Updated 2/15/2024Posted in Winter Arts Fest 2024

Heather Barker is a devoted crocheter. She found solace in the craft during her master's studies. What began as a stress-relieving pastime soon evolved into a profound passion for creative expression. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant yarns of Appalachia, Heather's crochet art reflects the region's rich textile traditions.

Raised in an environment where crochet was commonplace but not necessarily considered an art form, Heather's perspective shifted as she recognized the meticulous craftsmanship behind each piece. Incorporating yarn with a storied past sourced from thrift shops and estate sales, Heather weaves vibrant narratives that honor tradition while exuding contemporary charm.

Despite the challenge of keeping pace with her crocheting, Heather is grateful for the frequent gifts of yarn from friends who share her love for secondhand craft supplies. Through her crochet creations, Heather celebrates the beauty of heritage and infuses each piece with a sense of nostalgia and vibrant energy. Meet Heather and see her amazing work at Huntington’s Peddler Mall!
