Last Updated 2/19/2026Posted in Winter Arts Fest 2026

Don McDowell’s journey with oil painting began early, learning from his mother, a self-taught artist. After a career in sales and management, he returned to painting in retirement, bringing decades of lived experience into his work.

Known for his expressive portraits and striking depictions of Huntington landmarks, Don’s paintings celebrate both people and place. His work can be found throughout West Virginia and beyond, honoring the landscapes and faces that shape our region.

Find this artist during Winter Arts Fest, happening March 12 from 4–7PM at Hattie and Nan’s Antiques and Rare Books.
