Brief Bio

Bex Hall is an "artist who writes and a writer who arts." Her work has appeared and been sold through the Grayson Gallery. Her writing has been published, most recently in Kerning, a literary magazine, and in the Stories of Hope Collection in Transplant Living. She creates in Studio BE overlooking the Ohio River. After her grandmother passed in 2007, Hall said she found artwork she created as a child among all the things her grandmother saved. One of her favorite scenes then: a tree, a fence, a horse, a pasture. She ran my fingers over the marks and lines she made as a child and remembered the delicious freedom she felt when she made art. “I think it was around that time I decided to begin again and I spent almost a decade playing with different mediums. But it wasn’t until 2016 I decided to commit to a creative practice and officially call myself an artist. A spare bedroom became my studio. It’s small, but has two large windows and a view of the hills of Kentucky across the Ohio River. A dedicated space has been important to my growth as both an artist and a writer.”

Today, Halls finds deep satisfaction with pen and ink drawings and watercolors with the natural world as her preferred subject.

Work On Display

Hall was raised near the Coal River in St. Albans, WV, moved to Huntington in 1987, then landed in Franklin Furnace, OH in 2007, right beside the Ohio River. The mountains, trees, and water, in this case, the river, are part and parcel of her heart.

This led Hall to include the two pen and ink drawings of water, trees, and mountains for the Heart’s Desire exhibit. One titled, “Mountain of Love” and the other, “Think Happy, Be Happy.”
