    Central City Look: Shop 80s Fashion at Village Antiques & Art

    The 80s are back! Huntington has no shortage of 80s-themed fun this September, from the   Huntington Chamber of Commerce’s 80s Rewind to Marshall’s 80’s Echoes Homecoming! What better place to find your vintage look than right here in Central City? In this special “Central City Look”, we are highlighting Village Antique’s & Art’s latest 80s finds and sharing tips for dressing the part at your next big event.

    80s Fashion

    The iconic looks from the 80’s were defined by bright colors and bold looks. From Madonna and Prince to MTV and iconic films like The Breakfast Club and Top Gun, 80s fashion was heavily influenced by the entertainment industry. Defining fashion trends include shoulder pads, acid-wash jeans, bold and neon patterns, power suits, and more individuality in style.

    In a Vogue magazine article written by Lilah Ramzi, power fueled the 80s. With more women in the workforce, they were taking a stance through fashion, bringing on the trend of power suits. “By the 1980s, the previous decades’ pliable polyester suits were quickly replaced with more structured, angular versions that sent a message— women wanted power, and they were dressing the part,” Ramzi wrote. In today’s look, Lex and April are showcasing two power suit examples. Lex, standing on the left, is wearing a Sasson navy blue suit jacket with loose-fitting dress pants. April, standing on the right, is wearing a JH Collectibles matching plaid suit and skirt. Both styles are a great nod to the 80’s and the power women wanted to have in the workplace!

    Acid-Washed Jeans & Windbreakers

    In the second half of the decade, casual sportswear became more mainstream. Acid-wash jeans with straight legs replaced the flared leg style that was popular in the 70s. Windbreakers with bold colors and patterns contrasted with acid-washed jeans, making this duo an iconic look in the 80s. The duo is often paired with chunky shoes, scrunchies, and oversized jewelry and accessories to complete the casual look. Lex and April are showcasing two outfits that you definitely would have seen in the 80s, wearing authentic brands such as Stefano jeans.
