Brock Porter Brings Creativity to the Wild Ramp's Harvest Kitchen

Last Updated 3/2/2026

Brock Porter, a cook from Huntington, recently discussed his culinary journey, starting as a hobbyist and evolving into a Kitchen Assistant at the Wild Ramp. He graduated in 2022 and joined the Wild Ramp a year later, initially as a Retail Associate, and grew into a new dual role as Kitchen Assistant at the Harvest Kitchen.

Brock grew up in Kenova, West Virginia, and graduated from Spring Valley High School. He first visited the Wild Ramp as a customer and quickly knew he wanted to get involved and support the mission. “When I first came here, I started out as a Retail Associate, but eventually got into the kitchen, and I loved it,” he said.

About a month after he began working as a retail associate, the head chef he was assisting left, and a new position opened up. After expressing his interest to management, Brock began training in the kitchen and gradually worked his way into a dual role, blending retail and culinary responsibilities.

Brock's creativity in the kitchen sets him apart. “I like to cook things that most people have never heard of,” he said. He values the independence and experimental freedom at the Harvest Kitchen, contrasting it with the hectic environment of a restaurant. “There are a lot of different cuisines people haven’t heard of, and I think people like the variety that I bring to the dishes I’ve created at the Harvest Kitchen,” he added.

Brock emphasized the importance of supporting local food initiatives for sustainability, reducing food waste, and providing diverse culinary options, highlighting the Wild Ramp's role in promoting farm-to-table food. “In addition to getting better quality food than places like Walmart, we can create pretty much anything within reason here at the Harvest Kitchen,” he said. “Of course, supporting local farmers and reducing food waste are extra bonuses when you support the Wild Ramp,” he added.
