Rare Find at Hattie & Nans: Bettelini’s Engraving of Raphael’s Madonna

Bettelini, active in the late 18th and early 19th century, was known for his incredibly detailed engravings of master paintings. Using fine stipple and linework, he brought iconic works of the Renaissance to collectors and institutions long before photography existed. His name appears on the lower left of the piece, while the inscription on the right reads “Raffaele Sanzio dip.,” crediting the original artist, also known as Raphael Sanzio or famously just Raphael.
