Customers at the Central City Market Respond to a Survey on Tomato Day!

While tabling up at the Central City Market last Saturday, I asked customers how long they had been coming to the Farmer's Market for and what their favorite produce was. With no surprise, the favorite produce that was answered on Saturday was.... tomatoes! For those who don't get a chance to come to the Central City Market, it's made up entirely of local farmers that sell all kinds of different types of products such as corn, garlic, onions, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, and also sell things like local honey, elephant ear plants, peaches, and even fresh a small selection of fresh baked goods.

Customers shop with the Central City Market for over 30 years!

It was a mystery as to when the Central City Market started setting up on 14STW. Some customers had been coming to the Farmer's Market "always and forever," they would say. But the Market began on 14STW in 1976, and some of the customers today can even remember going to the Farmer's Market as a child. Many customers last Saturday had been coming to the Farmer's Market for so long that they can't even remember when they actually started coming but had to guess it was probably 20 to 30 years ago. Some people like to make an appearance at least once a week, and make it a day trip to see their friends at the Farmer's Market then head to the Central City Cafe!

The biggest and the ugliest tomato!

Market vendors were able to submit their biggest and ugliest tomato for the contest at the beginning of the day on Saturday. While I thought all the tomato submissions for the ugliest, were all so ugly, the contest for the biggest was neck and neck. The biggest tomato (#2) on Saturday came in weighing 1.9lbs!

The Central City Market takes place at 8 AM every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday on 14STW behind the Wild Ramp. If you're looking for the best local produce in Huntington, this is the place to be!
