Description

Hear the words that changed the world.

Central City brings the American Revolution to life this July 11th with a free living history theater experience you will never forget.

Imagine it is July 9th, 1776. Five days after Congress voted for independence. General Washington's army is camped in New York, a massive British fleet bearing down on the harbor. Before the fighting, Washington needs his soldiers to understand exactly what they were fighting for. So he orders the Declaration of Independence read aloud. To every brigade. Every soldier. Out in the open air.

This July 11th, the Central City Association invites you to be there.

Join us at Central City Gazebo Park for a thrilling outdoor theatre presentation of the Declaration of Independence. Hear the words Jefferson wrote in seventeen days that changed the course of human history. And when the moment comes, raise your flag and add your voice to the most important pledge ever made on American soil.

This is living history, performed in the open air, and will be fun for the whole family. Live music will be provided by Lincoln Brass and the Tri-State Brass Band throughout the day, and members of the Westmoreland Chapter and Buford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be present in full colonial dress from 11AM to 2PM.

Don't miss the Kids Quilt Show inside the Bob Bailey Senior Wellness Center, featuring original quilt squares made by children from across Cabell County answering the question: What does America mean to me?

Jewelweed Press will be hosting a Declaration of Independence Activity where participants can interact with the words that changed the world (while supplies last).

Round out your day with a vendor market organized by our friends at West Edge.

FREE admission. FREE American flags and giveaways. FREE ice pops while supplies last. All ages welcome.

Come for the ice pops. Stay for the revolution.
