Fall Volunteer Day Recap: Transforming Central City Gazebo with Community Spirit

Last Updated 9/21/2023

Fall has officially arrived, and with it came a beautiful day of community bonding and giving back. Last Wednesday, on September 22, 2023, volunteers from near and far gathered to add some final touches to the new and improved Central City Gazebo Park. It was a day of camaraderie, hard work, and a shared commitment to making our neighborhood shine. The Central City Gazebo, which has long been a cherished community space, received new furniture thanks to the T-Mobile Hometown Grant, and now thanks to the efforts of these dedicated individuals, the furniture is assembled and ready for use.

The driving force behind this heartwarming initiative was the Huntington Addiction Wellness Center (HAWC), an organization committed to providing support and care for individuals battling addiction. Part of their mission extends beyond recovery; it's about giving back to the very communities they serve. And what better way to give back than to enhance a beloved public space?

The volunteer day kicked off with enthusiasm as HAWC-sponsored volunteers, local community members, and even members of the Marshall community converged at the Central City Gazebo. Their shared goal was clear: to transform this central hub of our city into a vibrant and inviting space for all.

One of the primary tasks of the day was the assembly of new furniture for the gazebo. With teamwork and determination, volunteers quickly put together tables and set up chairs, creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. Now, residents and visitors alike can relax and appreciate the beauty of Central City from 9 AM to 5 PM.

But the transformation didn't stop there. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to tackle other important tasks. They searched the streets for litter, ensuring that Central City would shine in its autumn glory. Flower beds received the love and care they needed to bloom once more. Graffiti, a persistent challenge, was removed from the gazebo, restoring its beauty for all to see.

After a long day of hard work, volunteers were treated to a well-deserved break. They gathered around the newly installed furniture and enjoyed delicious local pizza from Gino's Pizza & Spaghetti House. It was a moment of relaxation and reflection, as volunteers looked out at the transformed Central City Gazebo, knowing they had made a tangible difference in their community.

The Fall Volunteer Day at Central City Gazebo was a shining example of what can be achieved when individuals and organizations come together for a common cause. The Central City community extends its heartfelt gratitude to HAWC and all the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to assist with just a small part of this big project to have a safe, welcoming gathering space.

As we move further into the fall season, Central City Gazebo stands as a symbol of the power of community spirit. It is a place where friends and families can gather, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the beauty of our neighborhood.
