Demo for PATH 14th St. West Connection - Sept 14 2023

Last Updated 9/8/2023

Thank you to all who participated in our survey of options for PATH improvements! We heard you!

Now we will be demonstrating one option that was in the top two from the public hearing process.

On September 14th from 3-6 pm please come walk, bike, or drive through the intersection of 14th Street West and Memorial Blvd. to try out a temporary traffic pattern to help create safer connections from the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health and the 14th Street West Main Street.

The temporary traffic pattern will include a proposed three way stop at 14th Street West and Memorial Boulevard, including crosswalks and a temporary connection to the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health.

About the 14th Street West PATH Connection Project

This project seeks to create safe and appealing pedestrian and bicycle improvements for 14th Street West and connect this area to the Harveytown Trail section of the PATH. While the commercial heart of 14th Street West already has substantial pedestrian infrastructure, there are no existing pedestrian or cyclist crossings from the nearest PATH section across Memorial Boulevard to 14th Street West, and portions of 14th Street West between Memorial Boulevard and Madison Avenue do not have a continuous sidewalk. This project will include improvements for bicycle and pedestrians that would connect the Harveytown PATH section to 14th Street West, creating a safe and welcoming option for pedestrians and cyclists to access the neighborhood, and draw residents and visitors alike to the corridor.

This project is a partnership between the City of Huntington, RenewAll, KYOVA, and the West Virginia Division of Highways. Funding for this project comes from KYOVA's suballocation of the Federal Highway Administration's Surface Transportation Block Grant program, and the America's Best Communities award as part of the West End Revitalization.
